The best places to stay in Zurich and Zermatt

Never did the last letter of the alphabet look so cool. In the form of some seriously cool towns beginning with the letter ‘Z’, Switzerland is single handedly bringing zexy back! For those not familiar with the breathtaking Alps of Zermatt or the indie underground of Zurich, then you had better get googling right now. Switzerland, though infamously expensive, is at the top of my must see lists. We were blessed to visit on our recent Europe trip so here is a run down of our two favourite cities and where to stay!

Zurich
Zurich is the transfer hub of Switzerland. On my first visit to Zurich, I hated it. Luckily, my opinion was completely changed on my second visit, thanks to the lovely folk at the Zurich Tourism center. The Stories of the Old Town Guided Walking Tour allowed us to discover the indie underbelly of such a great city and we instantly fell in love. It is a must for every Zurich visit!
We recommend staying at the Zurich Marriott Hotel for a great location, modern styling, and affordability.

Zermatt
Having previously visited Engelberg, which we love dearly, we weren’t sure how we would feel about Zermatt. Fortunately, we love Zermatt, even a little bit more than Engelberg! Zermatt is a true winter wonderland where you can indulge in luxury accommodation, chill out at the super fun Apres Ski venues, and learn how to master skiing or snowboarding. Coupled with the luxury of Zermatt are the expensive price tags and therefore finding good and affordable accommodation can be a hassle, especially during peak season. That’s why we recommend staying at the Hotel Testa Grigia, a three star hotel with a reasonable price tag and a recent four-star refurbishment. It was a comfy and clean hotel, which has the perfect location in the middle of the main road in Zermatt!

We were hosted by Zurich Tourism and Zermatt Tourism for our sight-seeing but our opinion is our own.
